The Story of Us
April 1st is the day Scott and I met 3 years ago and the day that we celebrate our anniversary. Technically our anniversary should probably be April 5th, but Scott insisted on the 1st. April Fools!
On April 1st 2011, I was just coming out of a pretty dark place in my life and learning how to BE the woman that now occupied my body. I decided I was going to be the 'Yes' girl and had been practicing this new motto for awhile. If anyone asked me to do anything that sounded remotely interesting I would say 'Yes'. It was working quite nicely and I was really digging the new carefree me. I was funemployed so I had lots of time on my hands.
This particular Friday I got a call from my friend and roommate in college, Penelope. She and her friend Rachel were headed to San Francisco to meet up with one of Rachel's friends from San Diego. Said friend also happened to have worked with Penelope and Rachel while we were all attending UC Davis. I had never met this person...somehow. Might have been the big fat taken sign on my forhead and the fraternity guy stamp on his.
Anyways, Penel asked if I'd like to come along for the evening for dinner and some drinking. I accepted and offered to pick them up from Union Square and then we would head up to pick up Scott. Scott had heard a very different version of the plans for the evening. He was told that Penel's friend Shane would be coming along, so he thought "ok cool another dude, yeah sure of course." (I'd like to point out that Rachel and I had met a number of times before but apparently I was Shane...) Needless to say Scott was surprised to see me pull up in my little black benz. In his words Scott's first impression "Wow Shane is hot!"
Scott jumps in the seat behind me next to Rachel, gives her a hug and then one for Penel. He then proceeds to wrap his arms around me to give me a hug and then realizes we haven't actually met so he gives me a little shake on my shoulders. Interesting.
My first impression, "mmm he smells good". So I proceed to let him know and say "you smell good what is that?" He answers "Soap". And carries on with his conversation. I was not amused to say the least. I was actually annoyed. What a smug smartass! So I kept to myself as I drove us to our first stop at Delluva Wine Bar in North Beach. We had a bottle of wine here as we waited for our table to be ready at the Stinking Rose. Scott paid for the bottle, he was redeeming himself.
I had been out of the dating game for awhile so I really want to point out my complete and utter ignorance to the art of flirting. I've never been a flirter but I also don't really know how to be the flirtee either. After dinner and our first bar Penel followed me to the ladies and made sure that I knew that Scott definitely had his flirting jets on high. What girl doesn't appreciate being liked of course it super flattering. My shy self will deny it but of course I liked it.
Throughout this whole night there was never actually a moment that Scott and I were alone until the end of the night at Buccaneer.

Rachel and Penel must have been in the bathroom and so Scott came over and said something to this effect. "I know you might be dating someone but let me take you to dinner." It was more of a statement than a question and quite honestly the way he asked made me not want to say no. Something about him saying "let me" was so respectful and flattering that I said "Ok, sure." And then he asked me for my number. Not wanting to make it awkward for our friends I said I would call him (I'm pretty sure he thought I would never call). Earlier in the night either Penel or Rachel sent us a group text so I knew I had his number. We all said our goodbye's and headed home. After I dropped the girls at their car in Berkeley I shot him a cryptic text to see if he knew it was me. (God only knows why but we had talked about Jersey Shore at some point of the night) My text said "Pauly D is my favorite on the shore". Only a few minutes later I had response, "I've been waiting for this text all night!" :) Makes me smile to think about that night.

And the rest is history.
Happy Anniversary Scott! I'm so lucky to have you!
