DIY Decorative Pillows

The title of this post should have been DIY Carla Decorative Pillows because quite honestly she did most of the important stuff. One huge perk of my profession is that I scored this absolutely gorgeous fabric "mock up" for FREE from one of my reps. And this particular fabric was upwards of $60 a yard!! I had planned on paying for it with my designer discount but then a mock up was discussed and I provided a project name and next thing you know, a giant roll (2 yards) was sitting at my desk. I had a memo sample of this fabric at my desk for a whole year before I made the leap to get myself some samples.

Isn't it gorgeous!! I'll be honest this is more of a "look what we made", rather than a here's a step by step guide to do it yourself. It isn't that hard but will take some time.

First off find yourself a fabric you are in love with. Then head over to Joann's and get yourself some pre-stuffed pillows. Measure out how much fabric you'll need and shear away.

Next up, measure the size of the pillow by folding the fabric tight over it.

Turn your fabric inside out and get sewing with that machine of yours. We started with the long end (hot dog) and then the short (hamburger).

Don't kill me Carla, I had to document our fun :)
Alright this part is tougher. After sewing your hot dog end and then one of your hamburger ends you want to sew only one inch on each side of your remaining hamburger end. This way you have pretty corners, but it's a pain in the a$$ to stuff that pillow through so don't sew it too much.

The rest of the sewing is done by hand. Fold the unfinished ends inside the pillow and sew across. We decided to sew by going in one side and then coming back through the same side instead of crossing over the top of the seam, it keeps this stitch more hidden. Here is a close up.

I'd be lying if I said they all came out perfectly. Case and point, this guy below. Carla had to go back and fix my work on this one. I obviously was not paying attention as I sewed the entire side of this.

All of our hard work paid off and we had so much fun! Thank you Carla for being so crafty and amazing with that sewing machine that was muchin' away at my super thick fabric. My pillows would not have been this beautiful without your skills! Let's make some more, I want them everywhere. :)

And here they are at home on my banquette!

Precious!
