I prefer the very berry or pink grapefruit effervescent kind, but they also have chewables now too. I don't like them, but it could be worth a try if you like that sort of thing. I swear by this stuff so if you haven't used it go pick so up to have on standby just in case.
At night time I always bundle up with socks and a beanie. The beanie part is super important especially if you have a fever. All your heat leaves your body from your head so keep that covered. (This is what I was told growing up, not from a doctor but from my dad and grandmother...traditions are pretty much medicine after being carried on so many years right?!) And if you have the flu the most important thing is to break the fever so layering up with a hoodie, beanie and socks under a down comforter should do the trick.
If the cold does in fact get me I try to stay away from any greasy or sweet/sugary foods. My mom is big on this and says that the sugar feeds the germs and I can't remember why she says no grease (something do with chinese medicine) but mom knows best, so I stay away. Brothy soups are the best for you in this case.
For a sore throat and cough I sip on hot water with fresh lemon and honey. Last night I heard that honey and cinnamon is also a good remedy for cough, so I sipped on that and found that it definitely quieted my cough. New remedy to add to the list. Another one is warm almond milk and tumeric.
This next one might be gross to some of you but I swear by it for a stuffy nose.
It's a little strange at first but once you try I swear you'll like it. Get some lukewarm water and add the saline solution to the squeeze bottle. Put the bottle to one nostril and squeez gently. Relax! Don't hold your breath or do anything weird like that. Go ahead and open your mouth because if you are really plugged up it might come out your mouth. I'm telling you when you see all of that stuff come out you'll be happy it isn't in your nose anymore! Sorry to gross you out but I promise it works and it isn't uncomfortable at all. The directions say not to blow your nose after but most of the times I gently blow just to get some more out. Follow the directions on that part, I'm not a doctor, this is just what I do.
I pretty much stay on airborne throughout my cold. It has so many good vitamins and cold fighting herbs that there is no reason not too. I also will drink emergenC throughout the day too, just depends on how I'm feeling.
Most important is to stay hydrated and drink LOTS of water. Buckets of it.
Those are my cold remedies, anyone have any more that you think I should try?
Stay healthy!
