My life in Cars - And what a good life it is.

Being the daughter of a car dealer has its perks. I wasn't one of the spoiled types, that's for sure, our cars have always been practical and fairly understated. I wasn't driving around in a brand new car, actually I've never owned a brand new car. It was all about safety and good engineering.  Here is a little trip down memory lane of all the car loves and hates of my life :)

I learned to drive a stick in this little lovely when I was about 14. Unfortunately it was gone by the time I got my license, so I mostly only enjoyed her on our country street or from the passenger side.
Cause of death: sold to the highest bidder
We called this girl the tank. A turbo diesel mercedes. She was my first ride, along with the next girl below. My sister and I shared these two all of our cars. This girl got into a dog fight with a tree and guess who came out on top. THE TANK. No but seriously, when I was switching back and forth between tanker and the little rocket below sometimes it was challenging to park with an obstruction tree in front of you. Look how short the nose is on rocket, it is probably half the size!
Cause of death: sold/donated to a cousin. She was at 250,000 miles and goin strong.

This girl was one of my favorites. So many good memories! It was so great to be back in a stick shift, we use to pile in this little girl and ride up to fish ranch road and hang out all afternoon. Sunroof wide open and music blaring.

Best memory of this girl.  Talia and I used to drive to school together and we had to cross 3 lanes of traffic, without a stop light. We had a system, she looked left, I looked right. I would yell clear, she would yell clear and we were off zooming into the center lanes. Problem was that one day, no one Talia, wasn't looking in front of us. HA! So when she let out that clutch we went zooming right underneath the bumper of a truck! And to continue the inappropriateness of the situation, we proceed to put down the visors and laugh hysterically. Thankfully the driver of the truck had a sense of humor even though the nose (is was rubber thank god) of our beloved was wedged under his bumper. So he bounced a little bit on the bed of the truck and she shimmied right outta there. Off to school.
Cause of death: Someone sucked sand into the engine, I'll give you 2 guesses. It wasn't me.
This girl was a hand me down from my Dad's cousin and while she was great and so reliable, she just was a little too straight-laced for us and not a ton of crazy memories.
Cause of death: unkown

What I wouldn't give to have this girl in my garage right now. Another favorite. I swear I can still smell the interior. What a gem she was, so fun to drive, so quick. Nothing but love for her.
Cause of death: I think this is the one where "we" broke the axel coasting from the top of the street into the drive way. Or was it the time that someone sucked sand into the engine. Talia should probably tell us which it was. Both scenarios  actually occurred. (I know right, my poor dad!)
Least favorite car alert. Before this little number showed up at my door step, we used to see these things around town and I'd say to my dad, who the H-E-double hockey sticks would buy one of those spaceships, talk about ugly. As Hoosh always says "what you resist, persists."  I was never unappreciative of the cars my dad brought me, I took what I got, but poor girl was always know as the spaceship.
Cause of death: don't know and don't really care, maybe my poor dad got tired of us referring to her as the spaceship.

This one got me through my first 2 years of college and she was my newest car to date. A 2001 VW Golf and I loved being back in German Engineering. Only German from here on out.
Cause of death: Sold to my friend sister. Passin' out the love

Who wouldn't want a bug! If you were in Davis between 2005-2007 and saw one of these it was probably me. I loved this girl. She smelled like crayons and was so much fun.
Cause of death: AC failure....bye bye my green machine
I love me a black benz. I look at this girl and sometimes I miss her. Something about a classic benz that just makes me happy.
Cause of death: Sold to man who was shipping her to Georgia, the country. I was so sad to pack her up and hand her over.

Last and certainly not least, my FIRST car that I purchased all by myself. Mercedes Benz C320 Kompressor; the car I always wanted and now she is mine for keeps!

Thanks for hanging through that obscenely long list and I think I even left out some in-betweeners but you get the idea. There were a lot. Thank you to my amazing Dad for always putting me in something I was proud of, except for the spaceship, I used to duck away from her, poor girl. Excited to see where this little car journey takes me. So far I've been with my girl the longest and while we were off to a little bit of a rough start, she's been treating me just right and I love her all the same.

What are some of your favorite memories of your cars?

  1. Yay! This is great! And what a loooong list of cars. My list consists of my first car, and Corolla Gonzalez. Done. So neat that you have pictures of all these guys, or girls I should say ;) and funny that your cars are all girls and mine are boys, I guess I always see cars as male....

  3. Excellent story, Shenine! I, too, have a penchant for German cars! My all time favorites (out of over 20, of which 16 have been German, none of them left stock) are: '68 VW Bug, which once made it from LA to Concord in 3 hours 45 minutes; an '84 Golf GTI; a '91 M5; the dear departed '71 914-6 race car; and the current cruiser, an '02 996, about a year away from turning over a quarter of a million miles!
