Cover Letter Envy (Part 1 of 2)

I have a confession. I'm confessing because I have to be honest in life even though I don't even know some of you people; its just something about me. About a year ago I had actually toyed with the idea of starting a blog about the exact topic I'm writing about today, but I got wrapped up in huge project roll out where I was living and breathing only work. So while this item is on my 30 before 30 list, I have technically completed it already and since it was within the last year it's still game in my book. And it's an on going process so expect more of these types of posts in the future because I won't give up til I find what I'm looking for. Here we go...

A big focus in my life is to find, not just the perfect job, but the right job for me. And I've come up with quite the interesting way to begin this process. I'm going search out the dream jobs; jobs that I think would be fulfilling to my soul, make me excited to go to work and hopefully they'll also have a splash of glamourous. Everyone's perfect job or dream job is different but I'm looking for the one that would fit me well and make me a better and happier person because of it. SO...here is the plan, In my free time (which isn't much lately) I'm going to track down these jobs and I'm going to cater my resume and experience towards them as best I can without fabrication. THEN I'm going to craft the most awesome and unique cover letter you have ever read. Lets hope my targets are as open minded as I am when receiving these little works of art. I figure it's a great quest to set out on and what do I have to lose except maybe my time, but this blog will make it all worth it. We can laugh our way through the process. I'll post the job posting and my cover letter and hopefully the response I receive. Good, bad or ugly its worth a shot. Here is to a brighter future!

Below is the first job I found when I thought I wanted to be a Wedding/Event Coordinator. Now I know in the above I said I was going to apply to "dream jobs" and this one doesn't exactly sound like I was reaching for the stars, but it did sounds like something I would enjoy. Think of it as a stepping stone; me getting my feet wet in this little pursuit.

Event Coordinator

Reply to: Of course I'm not going to share this, what if one of yous out there tries to take my dream job! Kidding, privacy reasons of course.

I think we can safely say that I am qualified for this position, only drawback is that I don't have direct EVENT coordination experience. Below is my exact letter.

Dear Future Employer/Teammate (hopefully),
As you can see from my resume I have 5 years of experience in the interior design field, not event planning. Please don't stop reading...I’m very passionate about event planning; there is something inside me that is always pulling me toward this field and unfortunately as we all know life seems to pull us in different directions and it takes quite the gust of wind to get us back on course. The gust of wind is upon me now and it has led me to your craigslist post. While I know that my experience is not exactly within your genre of work, there are actually quite a few similarities between what I do for the design and architecture world and what your company does for corporate events and brides to be. I am a project coordinator and on a daily basis I am constantly coordinating between contractors, designers, architects, building owners, building departments, coworker etc. I believe that this is very much like what you do on a daily basis as well. I have a very high attention to detail and am most productive when multitasking and juggling multiple projects. I love to plan and research, I’m highly personable and would love a position where I could work with people to make their events exactly what they picture in their mind. In addition, I do have some winery experience, does wine tasting count? Only kidding, I worked in the sales and marketing office at (Private) Winery in my early college years. At that time I was not yet legal to drink, but I believe it was the beginning of my love affair with red wine. Attached is my resume, I appreciate your time in reading this and reviewing my qualifications. I hope that maybe you’d like to give me the chance to show what I’ve got and if not, I hope you have enjoyed my letter. I look forward to speaking with you to further discuss the position and my qualifications.
Full of hope and good vibes,
Shenine
Tune in to my next posting to see if I got a response and how my first cover letter experience turned out.

Booses,
Shenine joon
