Confesions: Greedy for Garth

Garth Brooks is the reason I fell in love with country music. Him and Trisha Yearwood now that I think about it. I used to listen to Garth's The Dance and Trisha's She's in Love with the Boy on serious repeat as a kid. I remember pulling out the lyrics that came with my Trisha cassette tape and singing that song until I had it memorized. No surprise when Garth announced he'd be coming to Sacramento I was on the hunt for those tickets. They went on sale February 13th and he had 4 shows lined up. My girlfriends and I had all wanted to go together but with the ticket craze shit show it didn't happen. Serious sad face. On the bright side I got tickets and my mom, sis, Scott and I are seeing him on March 29th!!

Alright now on to the greedy part of the story. I literally watched Garth sell out 4 shows within a matter of about 2 hours. The next day he announced that he was releasing two more dates and tickets were going on sale the following Friday.  The more and more I thought about it, the more I thought I needed to get my hands on some tickets and sell them to pay for my boots

....remember these beauties.

I should preface that I seriously hate how people buy up tickets and sell them for double on stubhub...what bastards!
But seriously how cute are those boots and if I just got two tickets and sold them I could knock $100 off the price tag...maybe it's ok just this once.

So the morning of the ticket sales, I'm going back and forth with my Thing 2 about buying the tickets. At 11:58am I decide I'm going to go for it.  Thing 2 decides she is not and I'm all good with that. At 12:00 noon, I hit buy tickets and that evil wheel turns up and says 4 min.

I open a second window and it says 26 min! Ok, this is good that means the tickets are still in demand. My first window opens and it allows me to select seats.

At this point, half of me is the above and the other half is thinking....what if you don't sell these damn tickets idiot. I proceed. I get to the payment page and realize I don't have my credit card....

You'd think I would have taken that as a sign and been like, ok its not meant to be. But then I remembered that I asked Scott to send it to me last week when we were buying the first time.

I'm scrambling through my phone and all I see is that damn clock ticking down. (Also during this time, my other friend who wasn't able to get tickets last time has still had no luck, so I'm thinking ok, good, that means he's gonna sell out these shows too! and just so you don' t think I'm a jerk I told her if she couldn't get any I would sell her mine for face value). Anyway. The damn timer ticks down before I can put in my 3 digit number and it looks like its going to make me start over but it doesn't. It restarts the payment page. Thank the Lord.
I calmly put in my credit card info and click purchase.

Then I go back to ticketmaster and try to search again and it says 45 minute wait. Victory is mine.
I head off to lunch with my co-workers, right after I send an email to my Thing 2. "OMG I got 2 tickets and I went back on Ticketmaster and there is a 45 min wait for tickets, I think he might sell out again!!!"

And I'm off on my merry way.
I get back from lunch and I have a couple emails from her.
Email 1: "I got two tickets too!!"
...30 minutes later
Email 2: "Do we have buyers remorse now or what?"

Here is my response:
"Nope, I feel good about it. ...(then I pause and go to ticketmaster and try to buy two tickets....no wait....SHIT!! Then I go to stub hub...3,000 tickets available all being sold for face value).

I finish the email with all of the awful garbage that I have just learned and tell her I'm calling Ticketmaster and I'm going to come up with a lie and beg for my moneyback...I don't have time for this garbage.
After 35 min on hold, I give them my lie story.
"My husband and I (lie #1 number one, but seriously people think differently of you when you say boyfriend, you are automatically put in a different category) tried to buy tickets last week and we couldn't get any (lie #2). Then when he announced more shows I went online and bought tickets today right at noon. I called my husband to tell him the great news and he said 'I already got them last week, but I was trying to surprise you'. (lie #3, but that would have been sweet)"  Good story right?! Guess what, she bought it and refunded me the money!!! Yup...back to this guy again.

Good lord, that was stressful. Thing 2 had some hiccups so if she can't get rid of them we're going to go and see him together just like we wanted all along...He's totally worth the money. So see above again...

  2. i think they do that on purpose (make ticket buying so stressful) so that you feel rushed and as if those are the only tickets you'll ever get so when you pay what's equivalent to extortion money for those tickets, you feel happy. genius way to get your money back!!

  8. What a story!!!!

I once bought tickets to a concert (before it sold out) and then I won 2 tickets! It was at a venue where there are no seats, so it didn't matter which pair I parted with. I think I paid $40 each when I bought them, and when I went on craigslist to sell the pair I had bought - it was in such a demand that people were paying $100 each. Luckily the person that wanted to buy mine worked right down the street from me. It made the exchange so much easier, and the extra cash paid for a fancy dinner and concert drinks/swag for me :) Enjoy your show!

  9. Hahaha I love this story! I'm so jealous. I swear after missing all 4 George Strait shows that come to Texas that if either a)I miss Garth or b)he doesn't come to TX (but seriously why wouldn't he right? right?!) I'm going to lose my shit. Still love your boots btw.

  10. So glad you were able to get your money back! I had a similar situation with Foo Fighter tickets for later this summer; me and my friend both tried and succeeded in getting tickets, but mine are closer so she's selling hers to a friend. And it's ok to upsell... just this once ;)

  11. I think I'm still super mad at Ticketmaster even though I realize it is misdirected anger, but it's just so much easier to direct this rage at someone else (not myself!) I tried playing the irrational card. You know, so they'd think, "this lady's a nut, let's just give her what she's asking for so she'll leave us alone." No such luck. Apparently, they don't fear the crazy at Ticketmaster.

I think this concert will be so epic, I'll regret not going twice. WE'LL regret not going twice ;)

I think Garth would like your turquoise boots.

I think you could have a good blog topic with the whole husband vs boyfriend topic. You know my stance, only teenager have boyfriends. I told Beau he was my life partner, even if that makes us sound like lesbians.
