Lyrical Love: Never Grow Up

My love of music is always based on how relatable the song is to me and where I am in my life. When I first laid ears on Taylor Swift back in her Tim McGraw song days, I wasn't a huge fan. I was so much of a non-follower that when she was opening for Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, I purposely missed her opening act. I regret that now. But when her Fearless album came out she captured my heart, I was a goner. I remember hearing White Horse on Grey's Anatomy one night and the next day I scoured  the internet until I found it and I listened to it on repeat for the rest of the day. She sealed the deal when she released Speak Now; the timing was impeccable and she had roped me in once again. Her Fearless album is fantastic too. The thing that amazes me so much about Taylor Swift is that the songs she writes about break-ups (and her relationships are relatively short) are so intuitive and soulful that if your broken heart had a song it would probably be a Taylor Swift one. Anyways, while some of her songs can be annoying (as can she), I think she is truly a talented song writer and artist.

This particular song, not based on a breakup surprise surprise,  is one that I dedicate to my littles. Originally, it was just for my Ayla joon, but now that Sir Idean has arrived it's for both of them. Ayla has grown up so fast and I miss the days of baby talk and just wish we could rewind time and do it all over again. Precious moments like these just warm my heart and make me thank God that one us was bright enough to pull out our phones to capture a moment we thought we'd never forget. Cherish those moments and don't forget to grab your phone from time to time and snap some video. Wish my little darlin's would never grow up...

"Never Grow Up" - Taylor Swift

Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14 there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to, just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder that I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don't you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up

Booses,
Shenine joon

  1. I heard someone say awhile back, taylor swift was immature, and would never amount to much...funny, I always thought she wrote about truth, heartache, love, loss, pain, and what we all have been through. I LOVE her Truth...great job joon..

  3. I actually sing "Never Grow Up" to the little girls I nanny as a lullaby, they don't know it's Taylor Swift but they love it.
